The Real McCoy Tasting Notes

Posted: February 28, 2017 in Barbados, Rum

The Real McCoy 5 year old Rum 40%

Pot and column still spirit aged from Barbados in heavily charred American oak.

Tasted: Jan 2017

The nose displays plenty of high toned column still spirit with a touch of molasses and toasty oak. I’m not getting much in the way of weighty pot still character but it has some pleasant dried fruit, spice and vanilla.

The palate is light and supple with hints of Demerara sugar and light column still spirit notes with a subtle pot still weight and molasses. Very heavy toasty vanilla middle as the oak kicks in and it does bitter a little on the finish. Pleasant if ultimately unexciting.
