Kininvie Distillery Tasting Notes

Posted: May 5, 2016 in Kininvie, Scotch Whisky H-Z

Kininvie Special Release #1 ‘The First Drops’ 63%

WWA 2016 – Best Scotch Speyside 21 years and over

Tasted: Feb 2016

Nose: Intense and slightly soapy with perfumed white fruit and barley. Hints of apricot and minerals and a touch of fudgy oak.

Palate: The alcohol is very intrusive and drying. Hints of apricot, straw, white fruit, barley and vanilla oak follow.

Finish: Medium length and quite malty.

Conclusion: Again I would have like to have had the time to taste this with a drop of water.

Kininive 1991 (23 year old) 42.6%

Batch 3 – Bourbon/ Sherry

Tasted: Jan 2017

Nose: Mature, baked fruit, barley and straw. A subtle honey note adds some sweetness and with time hints of heather and violet.

Palate: Mellow and supple with baked fruit, vanilla and straw. Fills out well on the middle.

Finish: Good length with hints of spice and the oak bittering a little.

Conclusion: Not the most complex of whiskies, but pleasant enough.
