Quite sweet and honeyed aromas of apple and pear with hints of cinnamon, grass and vanilla. With time the fruit takes on a baked character and a touch of earth comes through.

Soft and creamy on the palate with vanilla ice cream, light fudge, barley and grass. The citrus duy arrives on the middle to freshen and balance the oak along with some lightly oiled apricot and pear. Very long and gently spiced with a distinct caramelized orange and malt finish.

Quite a dusty and mature nose with straw, white fruit, gooseberry and a touch of orange blossom honey. With time a little citrus and vanilla appears.

A little more toffee’d on the palate which takes the edge of the freshness. Pleasantly barley’d with just a touch of burnt coffee. Short and a little sharp but some sugar dusted fruit comes to the rescue.

A lovely, tropical nose of peach, guava, melon, apricot and banana. Softly spiced with plenty of buttery oak. Beautiful complexity with the aromas becoming quite aromatic with a late citrus and grass note.

The palate is soft and creamy, opening with barley and milky toffee along with hints of honey, grass and squidgy, tropical fruit (as per the nose!). Lovely, intensely spicy middle, very bold and mouth-filling. Long citrus and grassy finish. A delightful malt.

Gently honeyed and fruity aromas with hints of green apple, apricot, granulated sugar, dusty barley and sawdusty vanilla oak. Beautifully mature with a freshening, light grassiness and a developing perfumed note.

The palate opens with toffee coated fleshy apricot and banana. Not quite as fresh as the nose but still it displays a lovely depth and developing zesty citrus. It does eventually freshen towards the end with hints of grilled almond in the finish and a light, dusty spice after-taste.

A nose of sour fruit and hard barley. A little industrial with hints of herbs and manure.

The palate opens with burnt caramel and industrial barley. Hints of waxy fruit and the oils dampen the middle. It’s also a little watery as well. Short and a little hot with lingering caramel.

A subdued nose, showing a little barley and wet cardboard. Slightly oily and meaty with a touch of burnt caramel but in reality there isn’t a lot going on here.

The palate shows caramel, toffee along with a slightly industrial character. Hard with a lingering meatiness.

A lovely fleshy nose of citrus fruit and sweet white liquorice with hints of pear drops, plum, lavender and peppery spice. Really complex with the citrus giving the aromas a lovely fresh edge. With time the vanilla oak appears as does a touch of gristy cereal.

Soft vanilla oak encloses some deep citrus, apricot, pear and white peach fruit. There is a lovely sugar duted quality to the fruit along with some slightly gristy barley and sawdust notes. Piquant alcohol leads into a very peppery, white liquorice middle. Stunning depth with a delightfully leafy/ menthol finish, which reminds me of the classic cat pee Sauvignon blanc characteristics. Exquisitely balanced.

Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask Auchroisk 1976 (30 year old) 44.8%

Bourbon Cask DL3075/ Dist: 1976 Btl: 2006/ Tasted: Sept 2007

Wow, big and floral yet surprisingly delicate with rose oil, mature honey and waxy fruit. Literally dripping in luxurious honeyed aromas, dry spices and buttery creamy notes. Lovely depth with a balancing fresh edge to it.

The palate is soft and very creamy with hard granity, crisp citrus fruit, banana and tropical yellow fruit. Oozes luxury with earth and creamy buttery notes. Tangy and citrusy with an intense creamy oakiness and a slight plasticy note. In conclusion its a lovely delicate spey, marked down due to the odd plasticy note in the finish.
